Arguing for Plastic?

By Max

The argument against bottled water seems to be heating up. I read a lot of blogs on the pros and cons of bottled water and I’ve started to wonder lately what we’re really arguing about? Are we arguing about the high cost of bottled water? Are we arguing about the pollution plastic bottles are causing? Are we trying to promote our home water filter products? Or our stainless steel personal canteen? What is our true agenda? Marketers are using all sorts of scare tactics, misleading information and outright lies to keep us from focusing on the real problems. The argument shouldn’t just be about water bottles, we shouldn’t over look that an equal or greater quantity of plastic bottles are manufactured for beverages such as tea, sports drinks, and soft drinks just to name a few. In my opinion, it’s not just about water bottles, it’s about plastics and the impact that plastic has on our environment. Plastics are an important part of our lives. I believe we need them, and I believe plastics can be made which are more environmental friendly. If that statement makes you mad, just look around wherever you are, how many things can you see that don’t have some sort of plastic? We truly live in the “Plastic Age.” Can we continue down the path we are currently on? No, we can’t. Plastics are an environmental problem that has got to be fixed. We need plastic products that are designed to be safe and sustainable.
I can tell you that the agenda for our company, ENSO Bottles is to promote and sell biodegradable plastic bottles. ENSO has designed a safe, biodegradable plastic bottle that won't be in our landfills, streams and oceans hundreds or thousands of years from now.
Plastic containers…not just water bottles, are causing the problem. Water bottles seem to be taking the brunt of the attack and with more than 150 billion water bottles manufactured each year, water bottles are a pretty big target.
ENSO Bottles is an environmental company; our goal is to make our environment better. It isn’t our goal to say who has clean drinking water, or that bottle water is a waste of money, or what is better, a metal container or glass. We know that people need and want clean, portable, readily available water and based on the size of the industry, they are willing to pay for their water. It’s their choice, it’s their money and it should be the right of individual consumers to speak with their pocket books. You may not agree that there are times when a plastic water bottle is appropriate, we can debate that subject. ENSO Bottles designed a biodegradable plastic water bottle because we didn’t believe water bottles (or other beverage bottles) were going away any time soon. The ENSO bottle is a realistic approach toward helping to solve an environmental problem. Check out our website FAQ's and get all the facts about plastic.

  1. Max, I think you are correct. Our lifestyle revolves around plastics...just about everything we touch or use has some type of petroleum (plastic) in it. If the product biodegrades then we help the environment and this is a great start with water bottles. I hope this company can evolve and move into all plastic containers.

  2. From what I know plastic beverage bottles takes up alot of volume in land fills and disposal sites. It sure makes sense to have degradable plastic containers. They serve their short term purpose for the consumer, but won't last for centuries in garbage dumps. Of course its not just beverage bottles, there are countless other plastic containers that should be bio-degradable if technology allows. Keep up the good work Max.
